What domain name should the customer use to access the website?

When you signup, the username will be used to setup a subdomain under unifiedregistrar that your customer can use to access the website. It will be http://resellerusername.unifiedregistrar.com. Resellers will also options in the control panel to change the domain to something other than username.unifiedregistrar.com (more info).

What are the two sites I should be aware of?

Product website: This is the website on which the home page and other marketing pages reside. This part of the website is accessed through any domain name your provide or using http://resellerusername.unifiedregistrar.com by default.

Secure website: This is the portion where domain search and registration, domain management and other activities happen. This website is located at http://secure.unifiedregistrar.com

What steps should I take if I need to use custom domain name for product website?

You should login to the reseller administration area, choose the 'Settings' > 'Change Domain' (https://admin.unifiedregistrar.com/ChangeDomain.aspx) menu option. Then you can set the domain name you want. To activate that domain, you set proper host record entries for that domain. Always, CNAME your custom domain to point to resellerusername.unifiedregistrar.com.
